McCormack first emerged driving Mk2 Ford Escorts before he became British Junior champion in 2009. He moved to France in 2010 and finished second in the country's Citroën Racing Trophy. A return to the British championship for 2011 followed when McCormack won International Rally Northern Ireland in his two-wheel-drive Citroën DS3 R3T outright. After winning the IRC 2WD Cup section on the Donnelly Group Circuit of Ireland Rally in Aprill, when he claimed the Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy in the process, he was called up to replace the injured Patrik Flodin for Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse. Despite scant experience of his PSEngineering M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000, McCormack impressed by finishing 17th overall. He hopes to make further IRC appearances in 2012 subject to securing much needed funding.
