
Contrary to the information contained in IRC Newsletter #50/11 issued earlier today (22 December) Kronos Racing remains committed to the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge and is actively working on plans to contest all rounds of next year’s series.
The various Intercontinental Rally Challenge award winners were honoured in Paris last night (Thursday) at the annual IRC Awards Ceremony.
More events in the emerging Eastern European marketplace, visits to unchartered territories plus the inclusion of several classics, such as Rallye Sanremo and Tour de Corse, are among the highlights of the revamped Intercontinental Rally Challenge schedule for 2012.
The Cyprus Rally winning crew and Intercontinental Rally Challenge champions Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Flřene, runner-up Jan Kopecký, third-placed Patrik Sandell, IRC Production Cup champion Toshi Arai and IRC 2WD Cup champion Jean-Michel Raoux attended the post-event press conference in Pafos this evening. Andreas Mikkelsen has become the youngest driver to win the Intercontinental Rally Challenge after claiming victory on the season-closing Cyprus Rally. Amid emotional scenes captured live on Eurosport, Mikkeslen secured the title by one and a half points from Jan Kopecky, sealing glory by going fastest on the final stage alongside co-driver Ola Floene.
Andreas Mikkelsen has completed a dramatic opening day of the Cyprus Rally leading the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier and firmly on course for the coveted title in his SKODA UK Motorsport Fabia Super 2000.
