Duval returns to IRC in Sanremo
Asphalt specialist and former WRC star Francois Duval returns to the IRC with Abarth to expunge his disastrous appearance on home soil in June´s Belgium Rally Ypres. The 28-year-old star has a strong record with the Italian team and is looking forward to the event.
After crashing out on the first stage in Ypres, at the wheel of a Skoda Belgium-entered Fabia S2000, Duval will compete on Italian soil in the works Abarth Grande Punto S2000.
Duval becomes the fifth driver to compete at the wheel of the second works Abarth this year, alongside team leader Giandomenico Basso. Regular driver Anton Alen has taken on a number of other events to broaden his experience, allowing Bernd Casier, Luca Rossetti, Manuel Fuster and now Duval the opportunity for works outings on the IRC.
Speaking to Autosport magazine in the UK, Duval said: "I'm looking forward to Sanremo, but it will be very difficult as there are going to be a lot of local specialists there. I will do my best, but there's no question of doing what happened in Ypres again."
