IRC youngster Cave takes first rally win
Tom Cave used the break in his Intercontinental Rally Challenge schedule to win the Coracle Stages, a national rally in mid-Wales, last weekend (25 July).
Cave, 18, switched from the Proton Satria Neo Super 2000 he used on the Geko Ypres Rally in Belgium in late June to a Subaru Impreza WRX for the all-gravel rally, which took place within the Sweet Lamb Rally Complex.
The result marked the Welsh youngster’s first outright rally win and came despite his brakes malfunctioning at one stage in the event.
Cave, who was co-driven by Craig Parry, said: “It was a really good day and a great result – I’m really pleased. I settled in quickly to the Impreza and found it really useful to have the mileage and, of course, the result."
Not content with winning on gravel, Cave is now planning to contest the all-asphalt Harry Flatters Rally, which also takes place in Wales, on 1 August. He will again be at the wheel of his Impreza.
