31 May 2012 16:10 Q&A: Sepp Wiegand ŠKODA Auto Deutschland’s rising young star on switching from the IRC to racing in Austria for the latest round of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup

A circuit race in Austria, you must be very excited?
“For sure I’m really excited to be doing this race. There is a big difference between rally and racing but hopefully I can learn a lot with smooth driving and taking the perfect line. The most important thing is it’s good for the training.”

How much experience do you have of circuit racing?
“This will be my first circuit race so everything will be new for me. I don’t know my competitors and I don’t really know what to expect.”

Will it be strange not having your co-driver Timo Gottschalk reading out your pacenotes?
“It’s going to be different not hearing a voice next to me that’s for sure but hopefully I will be okay.”

The IRC resumes on Targa Florio-Rally Internazionale Di Sicila next month on stages likened to extended race tracks. How much help will doing this race be with that in mind?
“I’m not doing the race specifically for Targa Florio but for the overall training and maybe [the stages in Sicily] can help me more to learn how to carry more speed in the exit of the corner because it’s a faster rally.”
