21 August 2012 10:54 IRC success inspires Pikes Peak record for Yokohama and Nutahara Tyre company Yokohama hasn’t just been notching up success in the IRC Production Cup in 2012.

At the world famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the United States earlier this month, the firm was part of a successful bid to break the electric record on the 19.99-kilometre course.

Fumio Nutahara, who contested selected rounds of the IRC Production Cup in 2011 in a Yokohama-shod Subaru Impreza R4 STI, took 1m15.380s to reach the top of the climb in Colorado at the wheel of a TMG EV P002 race car.

The Japanese driver’s effort not only broke the previous electric record of 12m20.084s by more than two minutes, it was enough to place him sixth in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, Yokohama will be back chasing glory in the IRC Production Cup when Jarkko Nikara contests Barum Czech Rally Zlín from 31 August-2 September. Four stages of the asphalt event will be shown live on Eurosport and Czech TV.
